Kadai Paneer

Kadai Paneer is a popular North Indian dish that features paneer (cottage cheese) cooked in a spicy tomato-based gravy with a blend of aromatic spices. The dish gets its name from the kadai, a traditional Indian wok used to cook it. The combination of flavours and textures in this dish is sure to tantalise your taste buds.

Here’s a recipe for Kadai Paneer:

Ingredients:

  • 200 grams paneer (cottage cheese), cut into cubes
  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon ginger paste
  • 1 tablespoon garlic paste
  • 2-3 green chilies, finely chopped
  • 2-3 tomatoes, chopped
  • 1 capsicum (bell pepper), cut into cubes
  • 1 teaspoon coriander powder
  • 1 teaspoon cumin powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon red chilli powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon garam masala powder
  • Salt to taste
  • Fresh coriander leaves, chopped for garnish

Instructions:

  1. Heat the oil in a kadai or a pan over medium heat. Add cumin seeds and sauté until fragrant.
  2. Add chopped onions and sauté until they turn translucent.
  3. Add ginger paste, garlic paste, and green chilies and sauté for a minute.
  4. Add chopped tomatoes and cook until they turn soft.
  5. Add coriander powder, cumin powder, red chilli powder, turmeric powder, and salt to taste. Mix well and cook for 2-3 minutes.
  6. Add capsicum (bell pepper) and paneer cubes. Mix well and cook for 3-4 minutes.
  7. Add garam masala powder and mix well. Cook for another 2-3 minutes.
  8. Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and serve hot with naan or rice.
